I moved to Barcelona three months ago, it has been an incredible experience to leave home and move to a foreign country with a new language and without knowing anyone. Focusing on something new I reflected how this change forced me to take a very honest look at myself. What I discovered through this experience is depicted in my painting, which is a self-portrait symbolising how I felt. Most remarkable to me is how my surroundings and this new beginning made me realise so much about myself. This new life alone forced me to rely on myself and become independent. The emotions I connect to this experience are mixed; it was hectic, fast and at times very emotional. This is what I had tried to capture from a humorous angle. While our environment is a constant flow of change and diversity it is how individuals react, change and adapt, that fascinated and inspired me to paint this.
